I'm used to the fact that Haruki Murakami is inspired by a lot of Western pop culture, most notably its music. There's a lot of music in Murakami's work, ranging from John Coltrane to John Lennon. But I never gave a thought to musicians being inspired by Murakami's work, though it's the most obvious thing to happen, when I give it a deeper thought. So that's what's happened with Jacob Golden, a guitarist who has just had his latest album, Revenge Songs , come out. Over at CD Times, he talked about what influences his lyrics and he had this to say: I kind of go though different phases with reading. I was reading a lot of Haruki Murakami when I was writing the last album. I find that the way he writes suggests he listens to a lot of music, conversely.
